Cancer is such an indiscriminate disease, it's touched so many lives - including mine last year. Fortunately, my mum's cancer was caught in time and we hope the mastectomy was successful. In so many cases however families are not so lucky. One of my colleagues lost her mum to cancer and I lost two friends the friends the following year.
Last year, Chilterns' Thetford office raised over £1000 for Macmillan, as part of their 'World's Biggest Coffee Morning' initiative.
We were incredibly proud of the amount raised, the donations, cakes supplied and spirit of the event on a wet September's morning. However, one thing troubled us. So many of the people who attended had so many friends organising events locally, they felt 'time pressured' to visit each and every one (and understandably so).
This made me really think.
The event is about bringing communities together. About sharing stories, raising awareness and ultimately about raising money to fight this horrendous disease.
We have been working tirelessly over the last few months with Thetford Town Mayor, Roy Brame, to put on an event - Thetford's BIGGEST coffee morning - Roy, has kindly allowed the use of The Carnegie Rooms in Thetford, as part of his Mayoral 'allowance' and Thetford Town Council have agreed to supply refreshments for the event.
Our aim is for the entire town of Thetford to raise money and awareness of this terrible disease by co-hosting (alongside all other businesses, in unity) Thetford's BIGGEST coffee morning.
Whether you are a business, community group or individual who's been affected by cancer, we'd love you to join us on Friday 28th September at the Carnegie Rooms in Thetford to show your support and raise money to fight this awful disease. There's no cost to have a stall on the day but we are asking that everyone brings their own cakes and donates a raffle prize to help raise money.
Whatever your business, race, religion or cultural beliefs - cancer is a disease which (sadly) touches us all. Let's be united in making this Thetford's BIGGEST coffee morning and really doing something as a community to fight back!
We look forward to seeing you!
